    Абстракт

    В статье рассматриваются некоторые проблемы передачи видовременных форм глаголов с русского языка на английский язык. Актуальность работы заключается в отсутствии среди переводчиков последовательного подхода к передаче категориальных форм русского глагола. В целях нашего исследования отобраны примеры из рассказов А. П. Чехова и двух вариантов их переводов на английский язык, выполненных английской переводчицей Констанс Гарнетт и американскими переводчиками Ричардом Пивиром и Ларисой Волохонской. Выяснилось, что при переводе на английский язык категории времени и залога русских глаголов практически остаются неизменными, в то время как в способах передачи категории вида наблюдается разнообразие переводческих решений.

    Translation of tense and aspect forms of Russian verbs into English

    Abstract

    The article deals with some problems of translating tense and aspect forms of verbs from Russian into English. The relevance of the work lies in the lack of a consistent approach among translators to the translation of some forms of the Russian verb. The research is based on the examples from A. P. Chekhov’s stories and two versions of their translations into English, made by the English translator Constance Garnett and the American translators Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. It is concluded that the categories of tense and voice of Russian verbs practically coincide with those of English verbs, while a variety of translation solutions are observed in the ways of translating the aspect forms from Russian into English.
