    Abstract

    A method for producing the cation exchanger based on polystyrene waste (PS) by their oxidation and subsequent preliminary grafting chains of polyacrylic acid (PAA) in an aqueous medium in the presence of an initiating H2O2/ Fe²+ system at 70 °C in an inert gas atmosphere has been developed. Static exchange capacity (SEC) PS-crumb samples grafted chains PAA reaches 1.0 mEq/g. A sulfonation as a waste of unmodified polypropylene (PP) fiber, polyethylene (PE) film and PS-crumbs, and modified pre-oxidation. The oxidized PP and PE residues are more exposed and have greater sulfonation SEC.
